High Haj Demand: 84,000 Malaysians Appeal for Vacant Slots

Tabung Haji 84,000 Apply for Haj Slots as Malaysia Awaits Additional Quota

KUALA LUMPUR: The Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been inundated with 84,000 appeals from individuals hoping to secure vacant haj slots left by those unable to travel this year, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

Of these, 80,000 applicants have indicated their willingness to bear the full haj costs if selected.

Majority of Pilgrims Have Confirmed Travel

So far, 91% of the total 31,600 approved pilgrims have confirmed their participation, and all have been provided with flight details. Those on the appeal list will fill the remaining available slots.

“We are pleased that 91% of our pilgrims have confirmed their haj journey and received their flight schedules,” he said.

Additionally, the minister expressed optimism that the Saudi government will approve Malaysia’s request for 10,000 extra haj slots.

Pending Decision on Additional Quota

Speaking at a Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council event under the Rahmah Madani Ramadan programme on Thursday (March 13), Mohd Na’im confirmed that an official request for an increased quota has been made to Saudi authorities.

“As of now, we have not received any confirmation regarding our request for additional slots,” he said.
